In good, in bad, in parts or in whole, they were the ones who showed up, who stayed there regardless.
Everyone has family but it may not always be in the traditional form.
Many of us have people who were there for us that aren't part of our bloodline but acted closer to us than many who are our family by definition.
Your family is made up of the people who claimed you, and the people who chose to stay with you regardless of what the situation entailed.
Just as they were there for you in good times, and in bad times, so must you be there for them!
